Based on the quarterly data of CPI and salary from 2001 to 2010, this paper studies the relationship between price and wages in different periods under the framework of vector error correction model. The empirical results show that: (1) In the long run, there is a balanced relationship between price and total wages; in the short run, rising prices push up wage increases but wages have no impact on prices; (2) There is a long- term equilibrium relationship between prices and different types of wages; Rising prices have boosted the wages of state-owned units and the rise of wages in state-owned units can in turn lead to the rise of wages in urban collective units. Therefore, rising prices push up the overall wage level, but different types of wages have no effect on prices.
