旧上海的题材开始热门,于是这个话题也开始热门了。这话题的热门,多半缘了陈凯歌、张艺谋和陈逸飞三部电影的开机和宣传。但是把眼界放开一点,便发觉旧上海的题材远不止这些流氓加妓女之类,尽管这曾被那时偏激的文人看作“海派”的标志。不久前播放的由严顺开和林锡彪主演的《王先生和小陈》,(根据叶浅予当时的漫画改编),也以海派自居,显出昔日上海小市民的无奈的面目,作为今日大上海小市民的镜子。再想开去,反映上海工人武装起义的影视作品也应属于“旧上海的题材”,至少象《上海一家人》更是地地道道的“旧上海的题材”了。于是一个问题就冒出来了,今天成为热门的“旧上海的题材”意味着什么呢?是上海首当其冲经受西方文明冲击和压迫所作的回应?是现代工业文明的铁轮无情辗过留下的现代痕迹?这些或许与被
