The Nimmiya Tournament is one of the four famous “Coronet Games” in ancient Greece, dating back to Greek mythology. There are two popular versions of the origins of the Myth of Nimmi, but archeological evidence suggests that the Nimmi is a funeral to commemorate the baby. Founded in 573 BC, the Ancient Nimmi Race will be held every two years and will be permanently relocated from Nimia to Argos in 271 BC. The modern nimiya competition revived in 1996, held every four years and to date has hosted five games at the site of nimiya. The competition adopts the ancient ceremony to resist the commercialization. The purpose is to let the modern people experience the scenes of the ancient Greeks participating more than 2,000 years ago and carry forward the Olympic spirit.
