According to the Dutch literature and oral information examining the history of the duomei people in the 17th and 18th centuries, it is found that there are countless ties between ethnic groups on the east coast of Taiwan. Each ethnic group belongs to the cultural system of the Austronesian language family and has close interaction with each other, but there are also huge cultural differences among ethnic groups. The relationship between the Mi Yuan and the surrounding ethnic groups includes trade relations with the Basque people who share the same linguistic system, relations with other people of the Mi-Yuan community in the Ilan Plain, and Pabanangh and Dadangh people, commonly known as Takilis Relations with the mountain inhabitants of what is known as the Parrougearon, as well as with Mkk-qaulin and the Taroko. These ethnic relations reflect the changes in the economic life of Indigenous Peoples caused by factors such as the history of contention over social life between the ethnic groups from the late seventeenth century to the mid-eighteenth century, and the rapid expansion of immigrants.
