Britain is a country known for its ability to create new scientific ideas and open up new scientific fields. Britain is also the birthplace of electronic technology and a pioneer in computer and telecommunications technology. However, the high-tech industry in the UK has made slow progress. It was only in the late 1970s and early 1980s that the high-tech industrial development policy of the Thatcher government was vigorously promoted. This transformed the UK high-tech industry and created a large number of small, high-tech companies. High-tech industries have spread almost all over the country, and have formed three high-tech industrial centers in the M4 road zone, Cambridge and China and Scotland. They are also known as California-type Silicon Valley.
