The purpose is to standardize the operation behavior of oral diagnosis and treatment, effectively prevent and control oral medical infections, and monitor the sterilization effect of povidone-iodine soaking on full-mouth metal base dentures. Methods From January to December in 2012, 30 full-mouth metal plate-type dentures (upper jaws) were randomly selected from daily laboratories, and 1 000 to 2 000 mg/L povidone iodine was used to soak the full-metal base dentures for 3 min. Before and after disinfection, samples were taken for bacterial isolation, culture and identification. Results The number of colonies per denture before disinfection of 30 full-mouth metal base dentures ranged from 16 to 51 CFU/piece, and the mean value was (31.07±10.97) CFU/piece. After sterilization, no bacteria were detected; 932 strains of pathogenic bacteria were co-cultivated. Thirty-six strains of Staphylococcus aureus, 25 strains of Escherichia coli, 22 strains of Klebsiella pneumoniae and 12 strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa were detected. The detection rates were 6.33%, 2.68%, 2.36%, and 1.29%. Non-pathogenic bacteria; detected pathogens are divided into 5 categories, Gram-negative bacilli accounted for 53.86%, gram-positive bacteria accounted for 40.56%, Gram-negative bacteria accounted for 4.51%, Gram-positive bacilli accounted for 0.75%, fungi accounted for 0.32%. Conclusion Povidone-iodine impregnation method can completely disinfect the surface of full-surface metal substrate dentures, and can effectively control the potential bacterial contamination before dentures are inserted, thus ensuring hospital and patient medical safety.
