在老一辈的音乐家中,罗忠镕先生是有机会较早接受专业音乐教育的幸运者之一。1942年,他便进入由许可经先生领导的成都四川省立艺术专科学校音乐科(四川音乐学院的前身);1944年,他又考入重庆青木关国立音乐院分院(后该校改名为国立上海音乐专科学校);抗战胜利后,罗先生随学校来到上海。但他那时一直都是以小提琴作为主修专业,并先后师从戴粹伦、富华(ArigoFoa)等名师,直到1946年才随谭小麟先生旁听有关欣德米特作曲体系的课程。这不长的一段学习经历对罗先生一生都产生了深远的影响。
