Oprah: From you whose names I will never know, I learned what love is. You and this show have been the great love of my life.
Host A: Oprah Winfrey delivers what some might say is her greatest lesson yet, one of love, grace and validation[确认] in what she called “a love letter to her fans,” who have supported her for 25 years.
Host B: In fact Oprah says that gratitude[感恩] is the single greatest treasure that she will take from her experience. Cheryl Burton joins us now with that emotional farewell today. Cheryl.
Cheryl: In fact she said this was the last lesson from that studio for her, and, of course, for all of us, we’ll remember “where were you when the Oprah Show ended?”
After 25 years, Oprah filled her studio today with first-time guests and long-time friends to share the end of her 25-year run. Now, after more than 4,500 shows and 30,000 guests, Oprah used her last show to share words of wisdom and thank those who have been there from the beginning.
Oprah: Well, from day one, Chicago, you took me in—into your living rooms, and into your kitchens, and your dens[私室，书房]—and you spread the word to your friends. Today there will be no guests, there will be no makeovers[新的打扮], no surprises. You will not be
getting a car, or a tree注1. This last hour is really about me saying, “Thank you.” It is my love letter to you.
Cheryl: Oprah filled her love letter of a final show with inspiration[鼓舞] for her audience to go out and help others.
Oprah: Wherever you are, that is your platform, your stage, your circle of influence. That is your talk show.
Cheryl: The show also featured the countless guests who opened up to Oprah during the past 25 years.
Oprah: People started coming on the show, saying things they couldn’t say to their own family members.

Woman B: I want to tell my family and friends that I’m gay.

television, Oprah tried to inspire people to do good. Covering
Oprah during her 25 years of talk took us all over the
country and the world. Now with her final sign off, Oprah leaves a legacy filled with memorable[难忘的] moments.
It started with a marching band on State Street注3
and millions watched as Oprah marched on from there.
From the beginning, Oprah focused on giving.
Oprah’s Angel Network注4 kicked into high
gear[换高速档，开始高速运转], raising $80 million for projects around the world, including million-dollar grants for
charter schools注5.
Oprah: The money is just symbolic[象征的] of what can be done. We want you to see what they have done and for you to look inside yourself and see what it is you have to give back.
While car giveaways and “Oprah’s Favorite Things注6” made for memorable TV moments, one of Oprah’s major projects is her school in South Africa designed to teach girls how to become leaders.
Oprah: I already know that whatever is going to happen to these girls is going to amaze us.
Oprah took her viewers to disasters and shared her compassion[同情] following the devastation.
Oprah: You are...are survivors of a living hell.
It was hard for her to describe what she saw firsthand
in the aftermath[灾后时期] of Hurricane Katrina注7.
Oprah: ...found a little boy, four years old, still holding onto the arm of his dead mother who had drown, and so they pulled him up out of the roof... (choking up)
Oprah: I thank you for being as much of a sweet
inspiration for me as I’ve tried to be for you.

What Oprah Has Meant to People Around the World
Woman A (Mexican): I was 18 years old when I came to the United States. I started watching your show, and I didn’t speak any English at all. I didn’t understand a word, but the body language was universal[通用的], and we all speak the same language. When we smile, there’s no language. When we laugh, there’s no language.
When we cry, we all cry in the same language. So little by little[渐渐], I understood a word here and there, and so that is the way I learned to speak English.
Woman B (Zimbabwean): Growing up in Zimbabwe as a young girl, I was privileged[有特权的] to watch very few American shows, but the one important show at 4 o’clock was the Oprah Show. I saw people’s lives change on your show, and suddenly I was aware that I was not
limited by the circumstance that I was a sixth child in a[an] African home with a polygamous[一夫多妻的] family.
I was limited by nothing. That inspired me to start
working on designing clothes, gave me finances to be able to save up and get myself to college in the United States. You opened up a whole new world that, really, from Zimbabwe,
I could have never dreamt I would see.
Woman C (Afghan): I was only five years old when my family
and I fled Afghanistan and immigrated[移民] to Canada. I’ve been watching the Oprah Show religiously[虔诚地] since I was 15 years old, and I’ve barely missed an episode[集]. In 2009 I decided to go back to Afghanistan armed with a boxed set of Oprah Show DVDs. I realized how much I’ve learned from you. I thought that I could take those things and pass them on to a nation that did not get the Oprah Show. Today, thanks to you, I am the first host of a talk show in Afghanistan
that is very successful. My show is reminding the women of Afghanistan that they do have a voice and that they do have the right to be respected. I’m hoping that there are more girls who will be influenced by my show, just like I was influenced by your show.

奥普拉大事簿
1954 1月29日出生于密西西比州科西阿斯科。
1968 在东纳什维尔高中上学。
1970 代表纳什维尔WVOL电台获得“防火小姐”称号，并被选为第一位“田纳西州黑人小姐”。
