In order to meet the massive space transport requirements of the late 1990s, there is a need to create a large launch vehicle capable of carrying large payloads. Booster engines are a key component in large launch vehicles. This paper presents a three-component propellant booster engine scheme using liquid hydrogen as a coolant and discusses the impact on engine performance and weight using a variety of different hydrocarbon fuels.
