在永乐以前,国子监以历事制度和积分法相兼为用、互采所长,产生了良好的教学效果,为政府输送了大量博学实干之材。然而自从历事成为监生出身的途径之后,积分法便逐渐被荒废,终被取而代之。这一转变致使监生多无心肄业,只求早日拨历出身。加之而后统治者实际操作的偏差,正统年间开纳粟、依亲之例;成化以后又有雇人代历现象,使历事也失去了其原有的意义,徒具其形。
