1915年9月,陈独秀在上海创办《青年》杂志(月刊),从第二卷起改为《新青年》。1917年1月,陈独秀被北京大学校长蔡元培聘为北大文科学长,《新青年》编辑部迁到北京。陈独秀仍任主编。1920年初,编辑部又迁到上海。同年12月,陈独秀到广州,此期间由陈望道负责编辑部工作。该刊1922年7月休刊,1923年6月改为季刊,由瞿秋白任主编,在广州出版四期,再次休刊。从1925年4月起为不定期出版,1926年7月停刊。
In September 1915, Chen Duxiu founded “Youth” magazine (monthly magazine) in Shanghai and changed from “Volume Two” to “New Youth.” In January 1917, Chen Duxiu was hired by Peking University President Cai Yuanpei as the head of Peking University’s liberal arts department and the editor of “New Youth” to Beijing. Chen Duxiu is still chief editor. In early 1920, the editorial department moved to Shanghai again. In December of the same year, Chen Duxiu went to Guangzhou, where Chen Wangdao was responsible for the editorial work. The journal was closed in July 1922, and in June 1923 it was replaced by a quarterly journal, which was edited by Qu Qiubai and published in Guangzhou in four issues and was released again. From April 1925 from time to time published in July 1926 ceased publication.
