Inspired by Jan Gail’s famous “social distance” theory, this case study tries to design a method based on the visual scale by analyzing the characteristics and mutual relations of physical distance, social distance and visual distance. The program can not only reflect the rational and practical design, but also to further enhance the visual comfort space to promote social interaction activities. This article takes the design practice of the 41-meter lobby in the China Palace of Art as an example to prove the feasibility and rationality of the design method based on the visual dimension, and describes and summarizes the design flow and effect.
