As surface transport has become saturated, elevated and underground rail traffic is continuously developed. At present, Japan has a total of 9 metro cities. They are Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Kobe, Sapporo, Yokohama, Kyoto, Fukuoka and Sendai. Like the big cities in the world where there are metros, these cities in Japan also have their own subway markings.
