本文通过追溯加拿大从国家形成到20世纪中期以来特定的政治、经济、文化、外交历史,指出传播技术的发展与加拿大国家政治历程、社会文化的演变互相交织,加拿大之特定的“技术民族主义”传统孕育了一种独特的传播景观和技术悖论,传播技术被赋予控制“时间”与“空间”、承担“求同”与“存异”的多重职能,并由此产生出一系列矛盾和困境。也正是基于此,形成了加拿大思想史中独特的传播技术思想传统,以英尼斯和麦克卢汉为代表的“技术文化学派”(多伦多学派)正是这种传播技术思想的集中体现。
