《雨山行》通过对奇奥瓦(印第安部落的一支)历史的回顾、文化的剖析,反映了北美印第安人由于大量土地的丧失,在白人面前逐渐丧失了平等的话语权,他们被视为“落后”的民族:而其特有的传统文化也难以融人美国主流文化,常被贬称为边缘文化、愚昧文化,而被加以同化或抛弃。作为接受过良好教育的印第安人,莫马特以他特有的写作形式讲述了本部族的历史和传统文化,在白人文化占主流的社会中发出了自己的声音。
Through a review and cultural analysis of the history of Chios (a part of the Indian tribe), Yushanhang reflects the gradual loss of equal right of discourse to white people by North American Indians due to the loss of large amounts of land, “Backward ” of the nation: its unique traditional culture is also difficult to integrate into the mainstream culture in the United States, often devaluated as marginalized culture, ignorant culture, but be assimilated or abandoned. As a well-educated Indians, Momat teaches the history and traditional culture of the tribe in his own writing style, making his own voice in a society where white culture prevails.
