词汇教学是外语教学的重要组成部分,能否对学生进行成功、有效的词汇教学将是直接关系到学习者交际能力的发展。为了提高各个层次的英语词汇量,当然需要多读书和勤查词典。但从长期来看,脱离语境单纯记忆英语单词是不会有好的收效的。本文认为,根据语境推导单词意义比从字典查找单词意义更有利于词汇学习,因为推导过程是一个积极的认知过程,能够帮助学生在新旧知识之间建立联系。因此在英语教学过程中,教师应该有目的、有系统的培养学生根据语境和构词法猜测生词意义的能力。
Vocabulary teaching is an important part of foreign language teaching. Whether it can succeed or not, it will be directly related to the development of learners’ communicative competence. In order to improve the English vocabulary at all levels, of course, need more books and diligent dictionary. However, in the long run, there is no good effect for memorizing English words without context. This paper argues that deriving word meanings from contexts is more conducive to vocabulary learning than finding word meanings from dictionaries because the inference process is a positive cognitive process that helps students to establish relationships between old and new knowledge. Therefore, in the process of English teaching, teachers should have the purpose and systematically develop the ability of students to guess the meaning of new words according to context and word formation.
