This paper describes mainly the Pavement Maintenance and Pavement Management (PMS) system that is currently being implemented by the Danish Ministry of Transport’s Highway Administration in Denmark for the management of pavement maintenance and rehabilitation. This system is a subsystem of the road management system. The road management system Also includes traffic, structure, daily maintenance and other subsystems. This article includes: - Data Systems and Computer Programs for Data Storage, Updating, and Retrieval. - Methods used to assess pavement characteristics, structural capabilities and road damage. - Computer program to determine best recovery strategies for project and network scope and to estimate the future condition of the pavement and to determine the estimated level of maximum recovery of investment used in the maintenance of the road network. Pavement maintenance system is still changing, part of the change is the system itself to feedback. The system is largely based on objectively measured data as well as theoretical or mechanistic methods of analysis, so its fundamentals and many subsystems can easily be transformed into other conditions that are different from the current situation in Denmark. The rest of the system must be adapted to local conditions such as administrative procedures, available hardware, traffic and weather conditions. The Roads Administration can use their experience to adapt these adjustments and train the use of the system.
