Objective To assess the public health emergencies at home and abroad in August 2017 and the need to pay attention to the risks of infectious diseases. Methods According to the reports of domestic and foreign public health emergencies and the monitoring of key infectious diseases, the expert consultation method was adopted to invite experts from provincial (municipalities and autonomous regions) CDC to participate in the assessment through video conferencing. Results The incidence of dengue fever in Southeast Asian countries was high, and the number of imported cases in China will continue to increase. The risks of local transmission in key southern provinces will rise. Other mosquito-borne diseases such as Zika virus disease also have input cases and the risk of local transmission after imported. Food poisoning incidents will continue to rise, rural food, school feast and other food contamination or food deterioration will lead to increased poisoning incidents, and July August is poisoning mushroom poisoning period. In flood-hit areas, the risk of waterborne, foodborne, zoonotic and contagious diseases will increase after the disaster. August is the high temperature heat stroke in the month, when there is sustained high temperature and humid weather, prone to heat stroke peak. Conclusions The total number of public health emergencies and cases in China is expected to decline in August 2017 from July. Special attention should be given to the possible public health risks of Zika virus disease, dengue fever, Middle East respiratory syndrome and other infectious diseases, food poisoning, as well as floods, typhoons and high temperature heat waves.
