Due to the use of computers, mathematical models that simulate complex engineering conditions have gained momentum. A notable example is the model of turbocharged diesel engines, spark-ignition engines, Wankel engines and gas turbine engines. Although British universities are already leading in this area, there seems to be a gap between universities and British industry interested in using this model for design. This article, written by Prof. Lohn F.T. Maclaren and Samuel V. Kerr at Strathclyde University, analyzes oxygen and hydrogen compressor valves and illustrates the use of the model and its limitations.
