Postmodernism and modernism talk about postmodernism are bound to involve its relationship with modernism, which is also the focus of constant controversy between modernists and postmodernists. On the one hand, “postmodern ” emphasizes that it is non-modern and is a new category that completely ruptures with the ideology, artistic style and practice of modernism; on the other hand, “postmodern ” is also understood as highly Modern, understood as the continued development of modernity, strengthen the new attitude shown. Many postmodernists even favor the first argument that “postmodernism is a dramatic break in Western history, the end of an old thing and the advent of new things.” (Feng Jun, “Postmodern Philosophy Handout,” Commercial Press 2003 Edition.)
