Sha Ding, a novelist good at short stories, cultivated on the native soil started his literary career in 1931. Ten years after 1939, for the most of time he lived in his hometown, Anxian County, whose locality nourished him and his novels. We get a glimpse of his style in “Inside the Qixiangiu Tea House” which was praised by Mao Dun. His first short story anthology “Route Diverse From Law” was published in 1936. Almost all of the 10 pieces of works drew materials from his native land. Sha Ding says he likes his works to be reserved and never be extroverted. All this high lights his realistic characteristics of being a writer with Sichuan’s local color flavor
