Preface In the past fifteen to twenty years, more and more emphasis has been placed on extrinsic photoconductors for detecting long-wave infrared radiation energy. In the meantime, extrinsic light conductors have evolved from a handful of laboratory labs to high-quality infrared detectors used in performance-critical infrared systems. The extrinsic response bands for those materials studied range from about 1 micron to about 100 microns, with the emphasis, however, being on the development of materials in the 8 micron to 25 micron band.
