I.Introduction
Reading is one of the cores in English teaching. Reading means getting meaning out of a given text. It’s the ability to understand the written words and respond to them in proper ways. Reading is an active process. It constantly involves guessing, predicting checking and asking oneself questions.
People usually read different things for different purposes. In general there are three main reasons why people read. One is reading for survival, for example read the label on a medicine bottle. The next one is reading for learning and information. The last one is reading for entertainment or pleasure, For English teaching, the main purpose for is the second one.
In my practical teaching. I have found some students are not active in reading lessons; they are boring about reading lessons when they do some reading or answering activities. It seems that they are forced to do or they have to do. So my problem is how to arouse the students’ interest and participation in reading lessons.
Ⅱ. Project objective
To arouse students; interest in reading lessons. To make them involve in classroom activities actively. Both top students and average students have the chance to take part in and improve their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills at different levels through various better designed activities. Their knowledge of cross culture communication and different aspects of the society and ability of communication and cooperation can be developed as well. So achieve the knowledge objective, ability objective and morality objective
Ⅵ Project design
Based on the rationale, I’m going to use three units of the existing Junior English textbook as the reading material. New activities are designed with the aim of providing students with a chance to be creative and active and training the students to be efficient readers in the foreign language. New activities in different reading stages are better designed than the exist ones. Since it is a large class, I must pay attention to the following factors while designinnng the tasks:a give clear instructions;b.) Persuade the class to use English;c) Control the noise;d) Monitor the students’practice;e) Use various task types to arouse the students’ interest f) Give the students in different levels equal chance.
In pre-reading stage.
Activity1.Playing games
For using with Junior English for China, Book 2A Unit6 Lesson 23“Who has the coin?”
Purpose:To arouse students’ interest in the type of the text.
Instruction:Teacher hides a coin in one of her hands behind her back.Students guess where the coin is by asking questions and the teacher guess where the coin is by asking questions and the teacher gives short“Yes/NO” answers. Then ask some otherstudents do as what the teacher did.
Procedure:
Step1.The teacher shows a coin and teach the new word. Then tell the students they are going to play a game with the coin.
Step2.The teacher puts her hands behind her back and puts the coin in one of her hands. Now she puts her hands in front of her and let the students guess one after another by asking questions like“Is it in your left/right hand?”Teacher gives short answers like “Yes,you are right/No, you are wrong.”
