A simple mistake turns a dream into a nightmare
"We've won 10,000yuan... but we can't splash out andenjoy it!"
One day last year Prue Beech asked her son,Clayton, to do some shopping for her.
"And buy a couple of scratch cards, too," sheadded.
Prue often bought scratch cards in the hope of winning up to10,000yuan instant cash. "I only buy them when I have put by a fewpounds," says Prue.
Clayton went to the newsagent and bought two UK TreasuresInstant Cards. Clayton checked the cards as he was walkinghome. The first one was a winner--yuan. The second card was awinner -10,000yuan!
"We soon received the money and I paid it in to my bankaccount. Then we started planning what to spend the money on,"says Prue.
She booked up a flight to Australia to see her sister.
But two weeks later all her plans fellthrough. Someone rang a reporter from anational newspaper. They said that Claytonbought the scratch card for himself. "But ashe wasn't 16, the money could not be his,"explains Prue. You can't buy National Lotteryscratch cards if you are under 16. Finally thepolice were called. Now Prue can't spend themoney. She called off her trip to Australia.And she still doesn't know if she can keepthe 10,000yuan.
