“Huaxia Ji” is an English translation of ancient Chinese poems published by Ezra Pound, a famous American poet and representative of the Imagist School. It is “the first step in the modernization of poetics that has great influence.” It set off a wave of Chinese poetry in the British and American poetry circles, but it is also controversial because of its creative translation of unfaithfulness. Based on George Steiner’s interpretative translation theory, this article analyzes the “Huaxia Ji” from four steps: trust, invasion, absorption and compensation.
