I Made a Friend!
Lynn: Hey Jer. How are you today?
Jeremy: I’m fine. But why do you seem so 1)chipper this morning? I mean, I know you’ve been down these days about that douche bag Dwayne.
Lynn: You mean he, whose name shall not be spoken?
Jeremy: Oh yeah. Sorry about that. I forgot the memo...Anyway, what’s got you out of the dumps so quickly? Whatever it is, I’d like a try…
Lynn: O-M-G! I met this absolute sweetheart online, a total gentleman, who made me feel completely at ease last night. We chatted for hours about our 2)rollercoaster lives. It was an instant connection, and I think we could grow to be really good friends.
Jeremy: Wow! That’s amazing. What—what’d you say this lucky guy’s name was again?
Lynn: I didn’t, Mr. Nosey Parker. But if you must know, his name is Dan.
Jeremy: Why don’t you tell me a little bit about this Dan fellow, with whom you seem so 3)enamored?
Lynn: Dear Jeremy, I think you’re the one who seems a bit overly interested in my social life.
Jeremy: Well, after that jerk, Dway—what’s his name treated you so badly before, I just wanna make sure this Dan guy is up to your standards. After all, as your best friend, it’s supposed to be my job to keep 4)creeps like that away from you, but I didn’t see what an ass that guy was until it was too late. So I feel partly responsible.
Lynn: ①Aww, Jer, you really are a cutie pie. But Dan is no one you need to worry about. As I stated earlier, we are just friends. And I am really grateful for all the helpful advice he was doling out last night.
Jeremy: Advice about what, perchance?
Lynn: Life, love, homework…
Jeremy: Do you think the feelings you’re having maybe more than mere gratitude?
Lynn: What do ya mean?
Jeremy: Well, from where I stand, which is the outside looking in, it seems to me that you may already be in love with him.
Lynn: What?! No way! We just met. And we didn’t even really meet. I mean, I’ve never even seen a picture of the guy before.
Jeremy: And that matters why? You’ve heard of love at first sight. So, why couldn’t this be love at first write?
Lynn: I don’t know…I like to think I’d know the difference between love and friendship.
Jeremy: I think…no. I know that we all wish we could tell the difference between love and whatever isn’t. ②But I also know that no one can ever know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, what lies in the depths of one’s heart, be it their own or another’s. ③The heart has a way of playing tricks on us all. Lynn: Huh, that’s funny. Dan said something along those lines last night.
Jeremy: Hmm…Sounds like a smart guy to me. Friendship approved. But you might wanna keep your heart open to the possibility of something more…
