From the invention of gunpowder to folk craftsmen’s “flying” feat, the Chinese have been pregnant with the dream of exploring nine heaven. However, at a time when the Soviet Union sent its first satellite to space in 1957, China has just begun to imitate short-range missiles, let alone launch vehicles. However, the then leader Mao Zedong realized: “We also want to make satellites.” On February 19, 1960, China launched its first liquid-propelled sounding rocket developed by itself, flying eight kilometers. It is from this 8 km that the Chinese embarked on the first step in space exploration. From designing rockets to launching satellites and then to manned spaceflight, China has, from scratch, gone through hardships and finally ranks among the world’s space powers more than 40 years later.
