我县处于江苏省里下河下游苏北灌溉总渠两岸,属多雹地区.1960～1982的23年中,共降雹29次,平均每年1.3次.1969年5月9日,在11个重点植棉公社降了冰雹,受灾棉田达12万多亩.1982年6月18日育苗移栽花现蕾时,公兴、东沟两个公社遭雹害造成严重减产.我们通过多年的调查和系统的观察记载,探索了雹灾后棉花的管理措施.
