British Shakespearean critics such as Jonsson, Drayton, Pope, Johnson and others follow the neoclassical poetics to judge Shakespeare. They can not deny Shakespearean genius, but do not recognize its artistic value. Their comments are full of contradictions and fall into the predicament of neoclassical mechanical aesthetics. With the very different repercussions of 18th century Shakespeare in Germany and France, it can be seen that this is precisely the result of the contradiction between neoclassical poetics and romantic poetics. The insurmountable aesthetic barrier of neoclassicalism is the rigid tradition of formulating the dualism of nature and art and the rules of artificial art.
