优秀是卓越的大敌,这就是优秀者难以向卓越者跨越的根本原因。中国不乏优秀的企业和优秀的企业家,但鲜有卓越者。从优秀到卓越,可能是一步之遥,也可能是天壤之别。绝大多数公司始终未能成为卓越的公司,是因为它们绝大多数都是优秀的公司。按照柯林斯的观点,所谓卓越的公司,必须是在所在行业中第一流的机构,广受企业人士崇敬,已经历很多次产品(或服务)生命周期,同时对世界有着不可磨灭的影响。按照这样一种标准,中国的企业和企业家,除了海尔、联想、宝钢、华为等屈指可数的公司及其领导人之外,还有多少能称其为卓越的呢?
Excellence is the enemy of excellence. This is the fundamental reason why excellent people can’t leap over to excellence. There are many excellent companies and outstanding entrepreneurs in China, but few are outstanding. From excellence to excellence, it may be a step away or it may be a world of difference. The overwhelming majority of companies have not been able to become excellent companies because most of them are good companies. According to Collins, the so-called excellent company must be the first-rate organization in its industry, widely respected by business people, has experienced many product (or service) life cycles, and has an indelible impact on the world. According to such a standard, how many other companies and entrepreneurs in China, besides Haier, Lenovo, Baosteel, Huawei and others, can claim to be outstanding?
