高昌回鹘时期摩尼教绘画特征既源自于该教本身的哲学内涵与摩尼自身的艺术修养,又深受希腊、罗马文化的影响,同时又吸纳萨满教、佛教、印度教等多宗教及中原文化的审美思想。绘画类型主要分为壁画、插画、幡画几个方面,载体为寺院的墙壁、绢、麻等材质上,内容主要表现摩尼及众教士像、男女选民像、供养人像、神祗像以及装饰图案等。这一时期的绘画是在西域本地原有艺术营养成分的基础上,创造出了具有极高艺术价值的绘画作品。

The paintings of this period were based on the original nutritional ingredients of the arts in the Western Regions and created paintings with extremely high artistic value.
