In 1957, Li Yangjian, who had just stepped out of the university gate, was full of pride and enthusiasm. He devoted himself into his work with full passion. During the day he worked tirelessly to find ore for the motherland between the mountains and the mountains, and at night he was alone in candlelight. Everything was full of idealism in that era Like the young intellectuals, sincerely pondered the direction of the development of the international communist movement and the fate of China since the Twentieth Congress of the Soviet Communist Party. He wrote his own thoughts to two distant students and exchanged views. Shortly thereafter, however, the situation reversed and the struggle against rightism began. The two letters that infiltrated the innocent and enthusiastic letter of the young intellectual became evidence of “rightist speech.” In the summer of 1958, Li Yangjian was beaten to the right and sentenced to five years in prison. He was assigned to the Fenglin Pyrite Mine in Yangxin, Hubei Province, for labor reform.
