Objective To investigate the changes of CD4 + Foxp3 + regulatory T cells (Tregs) in peripheral blood of patients with different stages of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and its relationship with lung function changes. Methods Forty-one elderly patients with COPD (experimental group 1), 46 stable COPD patients (experimental group 2) and 37 healthy volunteers (control group) were enrolled in the study. Treg cells in peripheral blood were measured respectively. Results The differences of FVC% prep, FEV1% prep, FEV1 / FVC% and CD4 + Foxp3 +% in the experimental and control groups were statistically significant (P <0.01) There was a correlation between the proportion of peripheral Treg cells and FEV1% prep and FEV1 / FVC%. Conclusion There is a correlation between regulatory T cells and pulmonary function in elderly COPD patients.
