Since entering the 1980s, major companies in Japan have felt that the annual wage system as a feature of their corporate system has been unable to adapt to the increasingly volatile domestic situation and the international environment. All enterprises have successively reformed their wage system. The basic trend is to abandon the job wage system and change to a functional wage system. Among the many companies, the earliest start, the smooth integration, the most praised and emulated is Showa Denko. It has unique characteristics in the reform of the original job wage system and the establishment of a new functional wage system, and it is hailed as the representative work of the Japanese company’s new wage system. Here we introduce its successful experience, aiming to provide a way of thinking and a model for the reform of the wage system of Chinese enterprises to promote the deepening of this reform.
