Reported the behavior of impurity carbon and oxygen in the melting of pure iron floating area. Electrolytic iron vacuum induction melting and vacuum ingot, made of a diameter of 10 mm of the sample. When the zone melts, the sample in the melt zone rotates at a rate of 3.5-22 rpm and the melt zone moves from bottom to top at a rate of 1-2 mm / min. The sample melted in 11 sub-regions. According to the determination of the distribution coefficient of carbon and the metallographic examination of the inclusions in the samples before and after zone melting, the possibility of removing carbon and oxygen impurities from iron by zone melting was discussed.
