Foreign bank loans in emerging markets in Asia dropped sharply during the 2008-09 financial crisis and then rebounded. By the end of 2013, the balance of foreign bank loans in the region more than doubled from the bottom of 2008. At present, foreign bank loans account for the pre-crisis levels in Asia’s emerging market GDP, driving a sharp acceleration of domestic credit growth in some economies in the region. However, the pace of recovery of loans from different sources is not consistent. After the Asian Financial Crisis, the Eurozone, the United Kingdom and the United States were the major sources of foreign loans to emerg- ing Asian Emerging Markets. However, as the total amount of foreign bank loans in Emerging Asian markets continued to grow after the global financial crisis, Europe, the United Kingdom and the United States Bank share has dropped
