饭沼守(1881—1978),1881年11月25日出生于名古屋,少年时代先后入名古屋明伦中学、名古屋陆军地方幼年学校、中央幼年学校学习;1909年毕业于日本陆军士官学校,同年12月任步兵第五十一联队副官,步兵少尉;1919年从日本陆军大学毕业,任步兵第五十一联队中队长;1920年至1925年,先后在陆军运输部、参谋本部任职,并任第二十师团参谋,1925年晋升为步兵少佐;1927年转任陆军步兵学校教官;1929年3月晋升为步兵中佐;1930年任第三师团参谋,后任陆军大学教官;1933年8月晋升为步兵大佐;1934年8月任近卫步兵第二联队长;1937年8月晋升为陆军少将。八一三事变后,日军组建上海派遣军,饭沼守被任命为上海派遣军参谋长,参与指挥在上海、南京的作战;1938年2月回国,1939年晋升为陆军中将,同年12月被任命为第一一○师团长,再次出征中国;1942年被编为预备役;1945年再次被征召,任第九十六师团长,驻扎在济州岛,直至日本投降。日军占领南京后,饭沼守应日本军人组织偕行社之邀撰写了这篇作战指挥感想,并以《关于统帅指挥的几点所见》为题,于1938年7月5日刊登在《偕行社记事》(特报·支那事变①一周年纪念号)上。作为上海派遣军参谋长,饭沼守从作战指挥的角度详细记录了日军在上海、南京方面作战的得失,对于研究淞沪会战、南京保卫战乃至抗日战争均具重要史料价值。
