受制于《圣经》诠释传统对诚信所作的意义规定,对于孔子“诈病”拒见孺悲一事,理雅各就圣人的诚信品格及儒家的诚信之教均予以质疑和批评。但另一方面,理雅各又以对基督教道德神学“内心保留理论”一定程度的认可为前提,对中国经学诠释传统以“谦辞”和“不屑之教”肯定“辞以疾”的行动,予以部分的理解和接受。作为一种他者视域的观照,理雅各对儒家诚信之教的批评,使我们得以突破中国经学诠释传统的崇圣性思维,开始思考诚信原则价值承诺的终极依据问题。
