In the modern structure, the ultimate strength design method together with the application of high-strength concrete and high-strength steel bars raises a problem of reliability. In plates designed using new methods such as yield line and ribbon methods, excessive cracks and deflections may occur due to low reinforcement ratios. This requires a design standard to control cracks and deflections. The specification allows certain allowable crack width values. However, it is difficult to calculate the exact theoretical deflection in a split plate. This paper attempts to derive and propose an empirical formula for the deflection of a cracked plate based on experimental data obtained from a series of plate tests.
