Small cell lung cancer has a significant effect on chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and no surgery is required. Therefore, it is very important to accurately identify small cell carcinoma and other types of lung cancer. The authors reviewed autopsy records of 40 deceased patients who had been biopsy-proven for small cell lung cancer, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy from 1970 to 1978 in the Johns Hopkins Hospital. The results of the review revealed that 5 out of 40 patients had non-small cell carcinoma, 6 had mixed cancer, and 29 had small cell carcinoma. Of 5 cases of NSCLC, 3 were squamous cell carcinoma, 1 was adenocarcinoma, and 1 was undifferentiated large cell carcinoma. Its clinical manifestations are localized lesions (ie, the tumor does not exceed the ipsilateral thorax and ipsilateral supraclavicular lymph nodes), and the progression of the disease is relatively slow, unlike the general small cell lung cancer. 6 cases of mixed cancer
