A series of policies of reform and opening up have not only given birth to the marketization of labor force, have allowed the liberation and development of productive forces, and have also reshaped the relations between the state and the workers. Globalization and Labor Politics in China examines how the market-oriented reforms in China affected labor relations through changing labor policies and labor practices, under the contagion of FDI from the 1990s through the beginning of the new century. This article reviews the content of the book from three aspects: the marginalization of the working class, the contagion of capitalist labor practices and the morbid development of the relations between labor and capital. It calls for social forces to participate in shaping the new pattern of labor politics.
