Since the 1990s, China has entered a period of tremendous transformation. Inconsistent with the consumer economy, a large number of “marginalized groups” have emerged that are free from the mainstream culture and institutions. Li Yu, as a female film director who grew up in the late 1990s, focused her eyes on the image narration of this period in which women’s living conditions and social ethics status were contradictory. She always focused on female characters as objects and women’s stories as Creation theme, by reflecting their pain, to stimulate the crowd of viewers contemplation of contemporary female predicament.
