Leo Tolstoy and Confucius are cultural philosophers of different nationalities and cultures. Their views on literature and art have many similarities with regard to issues such as literature and art, people’s hearts, literature and art and society. Tolstoy believes that true art should show feelings of common humanity and play a role in uniting the entire human race; and this is exactly the meaning of Confucius’ “Xing” and “group”. Although there are some differences in the philosophical views of the two philosophers, it is important to remind us that comparative literature does pay more attention to the propositions and concepts that have common connotations in different literary traditions.
