郭沫若对荀子的研究得益于时代的影响、个人学术的积淀以及前人研究的滥觞。郭沫若对荀子的评价很高,他认为,荀子是先秦诸子中最后一位大师,他不仅集儒家之大成,而且可以说是集百家之大成。但是,他也对荀子的学说有诸多批判。郭沫若对荀子的批判主要集中在其天人观、人性论、社会理论和政治理论上。这些批判中,深植了他的唯物史观、辩证唯物论和人民本位的史学特点。而时人及后人的相关评价更是反映了不同时期史学的发展情况和特点。
Guo Moruo ’s research on Xunzi benefited from the influence of the times, the accumulation of individual scholarship and the origins of previous studies. Guo Mo-ruo highly appraised Xunzi. In his opinion, Xunzi was the last master of all the pre-Qin philosophers. He not only embodies the great Confucianism, but also can be described as a culmination of hundreds. However, he also criticizes Xunzi’s doctrine. Guo Mo-ruo’s critique of Xunzi mainly focused on his outlook on heaven and man, human nature, social theory and political theory. These critiques deeply rooted in his historiographical features of historical materialism, dialectical materialism and people’s standard. The relative evaluation of people and future generations reflects the development and characteristics of history in different periods.
