Storage and protection techniques often include the production of computer output microfilm (or microfilm), such as the well-known COM (Computer Microfilm Output) film, which is readily apparent in storage convenience and is therefore oftentimes used as a carrier of document information to be stored in film instead of paper. For the life of the film, little is known at the moment, and film life is directly affected by the storage environment conditions. A newly invented information carrier, an optical disk, can stand the long hours of operation but is costly and difficult to use extensively. The initial price of each optical disk is about 20,000 U.S. dollars.
