Primary aldosteronism (PA) is a type of endocrine system disorder caused by increased secretion of aldosterone due to dysfunction of the adrenal globus pallidus. Currently, PA has been recognized as the most common form of secondary hypertension. PA patients with high levels of aldosterone can lead to the corresponding target organ damage, the incidence of serious cardiovascular events is much higher than the patients with essential hypertension. Therefore, PA patients early detection and diagnosis and treatment is particularly important. This article reviews the recent progress of PA diagnosis and treatment.
