The prevailing view in history is that the Canton Times, an English-language newspaper in Guangzhou in the early Republic of China, started its publication in 1919 and considered the suspension of the publication of the Guangzhou Times because of the oppression by the military of Chen Jiongming Huang Xianzhao, chief editor of the “Guangzhou Times,” was also believed to have been deported from Guangzhou by Sun Yat-sen for spreading rumors of Sun’s death. By looking for the new historical data and the above three chapters, the study finds that: 1. The publication time of “Guangzhou Times” should be September 15, 1918; 2. May 30, 1920, “Guangzhou Times” was subject to Lu Rongting’s army Government repression and forced to stop publication, but there is no evidence that the “Guangzhou Times” had been persecuted by Chen Jiongming’s military government; 3. The rumor that spread the rumors of Sun Zhongshan’s death in 1924 could not be determined as Huang Xianzhao, and the evidence indicated that Hong Kong may be the reporter at the time. The rediscovery of the new historical materials shows the bumpy career of journalists at that time. The soil of freedom of the press has not been cultivated in the early period of the Republic of China, which reflects the fact that social and political instability can not guarantee the operation of the news operation. There is also a great revelation.
