1997年爆发了20世纪以来最强的一次厄尔尼诺事件。此次ElNin~o事件的发生,与赤道中、西太平洋地区大气季节内振荡(ISO)在1996年冬到1997年春的异常增强有重要关系。西太平洋暖池次表层海温(SOT)正距平沿温跃层东传到赤道东太平洋并向海洋表层扩展是ElNin~o事件爆发的直接原因。1997~1998年的ElNin~o事件爆发后,引起全球大气环流和世界许多地区的气候异常,导致一些国家和地区多雨洪涝,另外一些国家和地区高温少雨和严重干旱。
The strongest El Niño event of the 20th century broke out in 1997. The occurrence of El Nin ~ o event is significantly related to the anomalous increase of Atmospheric Seasonal Fluctuation (ISO) in the Mid-East and West Pacific during the period from 1996 to the spring of 1997. The positive SEN anomalies in the western Pacific warm pool extend eastward along the thermocline into the equatorial eastern Pacific and extend to the ocean surface, which is the direct cause of the El Nin-o event. The outbreak of El Nin ~ e from 1997 to 1998 caused global atmospheric circulation and climatic anomalies in many parts of the world, causing some countries and regions to suffer heavy rain and waterlogging. Others suffered from heavy rainfall and severe drought in some countries and regions.
