对宗教与信仰问题的探索贯穿于约翰·厄普代克半个多世纪的创作。作为后“9·11”文学的代表作品,其2006年的小说《恐怖分子》也以宗教问题为切入点,从多视角描绘了一名在美国成长的穆斯林青年转变为一名恐怖分子的过程。当多数评论将视角聚焦于宗教与信仰问题时,本文从女性主义批评方法出发,挖掘出足够的证据表明小说中男性角色对女性的负面印象,由此揭露男性角色的厌女情结和弥漫于社会的父权意识。由此,本文将《恐怖分子》定义为当今社会宣传父权意识的文学工具。
The exploration of religion and belief runs through John Updike’s creation for more than half a century. As the representative piece of post-9.11 literary literature, his novel “The Terrorists” in 2006 also started with the issue of religion. It depicts from a multi-perspective the transformation of a Muslim youth who grew up in the United States into a terrorist the process of. When most of the comments focused on the issue of religion and belief, this article starts from feminist criticism and excavated enough evidence to show the negative impression of male characters on women in the novel, thus exposing the male character’s misogyny and pervasiveness in society Patriarchal consciousness. Therefore, this article defines “terrorist” as a literary tool for propagating patriarchal ideology in today’s society.
