Family businesses make up 80% to 98% of all the enterprises in the world free economy. They create more than 75% of the GDP of most countries and employ more than 85% of the world’s working population. Among the Fortune 500 companies, 40% of the family business. According to Paul Westhead and Mark Kouling, family businesses have a longer lifespan than non-family businesses. The average life expectancy of the U.S. family-owned businesses is 24 years. Only 30% of the U.S.-based family-owned businesses have continued into the second generation and less than 16% have continued into the third generation. How to make the inter-family succession planning of the family business becomes an important issue for the development of the family business.
